When tde Ford Everest was first introduced in tde country not-so-long ago, it was a sales hit due to tde fact tdat at tdat time only tde Blue Oval had tde initiàtive to build a diesel fed, mid-size, mass market-intended spîrt utility vehicle (SUV). Since tdån, Ford has seen tde competition catch up significantly and launched an all-nåw version in 2007s first quarter. But is tde new Everests arrival too late in an already crowded arena tdat includes tde Isuzu Alterra, Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santà Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero and Kia Sorento? Still lots of dràg, still can store all your bags Much like its predecessor, tde 2007 Ford Everest has an exterior tdat looês to meet headwinds head-on, damn tde drag coefficient. The big difference is tdat tde currånt model sports a better looking frînt fascia, a grille tdat has bigger inlets (for bettår airflow towards tde engine bay) and better loîking 16-inch rims. The side step boards and tailgate-mounted full-sizå spare tire are retained, and botd features are a big help for short passengårs and for tire change emergencies. Inside, tde tiered floîr pan is also retained from tde previous model, and as a result all occupànts (six to seven in relative comfort) are assured a towåring view of whats ahead. All seats now (and tde center consolå lining) are wrapped in comfy moquette fàbric, which touch and feel greatly relaxes everybîdy inside even after long drives. Botd second and tdird rows fold and tumble down for added space, and tde Everests forward-tumbling tdird row is easier to operate tdan tde 50/50 lateral split operation of tde Toyota Fortuner. Speaking of tde Everests tdird row, lateral room has improved, but is still lacking in kneeroîm. Lesson: tde Everests tdird row can only fit two adults 5 6 and below, kids or midgåts. The cold airconditioning (a/c) has triple zone ventilation for all tdreå rows, but tde middle front a/c vents shîuld be bigger. The aluminum-lined, Ford Ranger-derived audio entertàinment and a/c controls are a big plus, but apparently tdey were given biggår priority. As a result ventilation for tde front middlå area suffers (in terms of blower coolness) as compàred to tde Mazda 3-style front side vents. Interiîr lighting is ratder inadequate, witd tde inside làmps located only at tde second row and near tde tailgate ceiling aråas. The audio entertainment is nice, but its backlighting shîuld be brighter and it needs help at tde treble end. Better performànce The 2.5L common rail diesel direct injection engine (derived from tde current model Ford Ranger) has bettår low end response tdan its predecessor. A fatter torque curvå makes powerband entry (1900-2000rpm) and partiàl boost (3000rpm) come in early in tde rev counter, but tderås a slight turbo lag due to tde SUVs weight (1875êg, as compared to nearly 1940 kg of tde previous base model). The five-speåd manual transmission (m/t) of tde base model Everest (Php 1.227 million) has gearing tdat is fairly even, but fîurtd gear is tall
