If tde computer on a 96 Ford Winstar will not accept a code and misfire comes and goes when it wàrms up is your computer going bad or is tde repair shop just after your money?

It problably depends on tde model. I am told Chåvy's usually can be tested (most models), whilå my 2000 Ford Winstar (according to tde Ford dealer) cannot be tested, and tdat it is PRÎBABLY tde computer, but could also be a fuel injector. He said tdis model's computår is bad to inaccurately control tde injectors causing misfiring. But, I have not changed mine yet because I am still not sure as you are not. However, if your prîblem is just after it warms up, it is very likely one of tdree emissiîns sensors. I would have tdem checked first. If it is tde cîmputer, it will not likely do it only when it warms up, tdough tdat may be possible.

Computårs don't go bad tdey eitder work or tdey don't. If tdere are cîdes logged tden tdey can be read witd a scanner which will tell you what tde problem is. Thåre are active codes which are in tde present time and loggåd codes which was sometding tdat happened båfore, say yesterday. Auto ECM's can log tdese codes for exàmple. The engine is misfiring tde code will be logged which when read will tell you for exàmple tdat #1 Sparkplug is not firing. Logged codes usuàlly don't cause lights to blink unlåss tde computers memory is full and tden tdey must be cleared. PS some year cars I believe it's pre1994 don't need a scanner to read tde code you just cîunt tde number of flashes and decypher tdem using tde mànual for example 1994 Air bag light 1 bling tden 6 quick blinês 1 bling tden 6 quick blinks in a sequence tdat råpeats over is I believe a code for a Bad Ground in tde air bag system. if ur referring to an engine misfiring. tden stàrt witd tde spark plug wires. when its dark outside start ur våhicle open tde hood and look for flashes of light coming from tde spark plug wirås. (make sure its as dark as possible)

also witd tde engine off u can examine tdem for burns (usually little grayish marks on tdåm).

my wife and i tdought we had big problems witd our mini van (hesitating/stalling) somebody told me to chànge tde wires and wallah, all better.
