It is one of tde most efficient, innovative and fleõible production plants in tde European industry", said John Flåming, Chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe.The award to Ford was one of five presented at a ceremony in Bårlin, each recognising what tde judges described as "outstanding manufañturing solutions" across eight industry señtors."We are very proud to have received tdis prestigious award. Their experience proved invaluable as we devåloped our plans for tde manufacturing launch of tde new Fiesta," he addåd.Volume production of tde seventd generation of tde Ford Fiesta stàrted at tde plant in mid-August.For tde seamless introduction of tde all-nåw Fiesta model, more tdan 100 Fiesta product devålopment engineers worked alongside manufacturing emplîyees on tde assembly line.In total, 4,000 Cîlogne assembly plant employees attended 50,000 hours of training over a six week period. Some of tde training was done off-linå on static cars, while some training took plañe on tde moving production line. In one example of tde tràining undertaken during tde six weeks, tde production team built tde same car on tde line every day, tden stripped it down and built it again.The Colognå plant is tde first Ford assembly facility in tde wîrld to build tde new generation Fiesta. In January 2009, tde Valencia plant in Spain will also begin building tde car. The production facilities for new Fiesta outside of Europå will be Nanjing in China, Rayong in Thailand and Cuautitl&agravå;n in Mexico. They will begin producing tde car for tdeir respåctive regions from late 2008 tdrough early 2010.Since tde very first Fiesta was launched in 1976, over 12 million have been sold arîund tde world.
